(james) the 27-year-old was serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole for killing odin lloyd in 20-13. prison officials say he used bed sheets to hang himself in his cell earlier this morning. the suicide comes five days after he was acquitted of murdering two men in boston back in 20-12. prison guards say there was no indication hernandez was thinking about taking his own life. they say he would have been transferred to a mental health unit if there was any concern about his well-being. his death comes on the same day the patriots are set to visit the white house to commemorate their super bowl victory. hernandez played three seasons for the team before his arrest. (james) more breaking news from overnight... police are investigating a shooting in san francisco. it happened around 1:45 this morning near the intersection of bayshore boulevard and industrial street in the city's bayview neighborhood. police have not released any other details this morning. ( darya ) our top story this morning... a woman assaulted on the campus of san jose state university and the attacker is still on the loose.

( yoli ) a woman is attacked on the campus of san jose state university and the attacker is still on the loose. police say a woman was jogging in the area of south 7th street and east san fernando street just before 8:00 last night when a man tried to grab her. the woman took off and hid in the car of another student in a nearby parking lot. she was not injured. police do not have a clear description of him this morning. ( yoli ) black man in his 40's. he is 6'3" with a thin build. mole on the

( darya ) a warning for parents... a man is driving up to young girls and flashing nude photos at them in the north bay. so far there have been two cases and police believe the same man is to blame. the most recent incident happened monday morning when an 11-year-old was walking to school on camino colegio drive. she says a man in a white s-u-v pulled up next to her, blew a kiss at her, and then held up his phone showing a picture of a naked woman. the girl ran away and called her parents who then called police. officers say this may be related to a similar case involving an 18-year-old girl... ( darya ) the man is described as white in his late 30's... he is bald on the top of his head with

blonde hair on the side. police say he was driving an early 2000's white toyota 4- runner or a similar s-u-v with a bike rack on top. ( james ) the three drifters convicted of killing a san francisco tourist and a marin hiker have been sentenced. sean angold, lila alligood and morrison lampley were convicted of the october 2015 murders of 23-year-old audrey carrey and therapist steve carter. alligood was sentenced to 50 years to life for her role in the two murders. the gunman, morrison lampley was sentenced to 100 years. angold was sentenced to 15 years to life for the second degree murder of steve carter after agreeing to testify against the other two. ( james ) 3 people are ambushed and killed in fresno and it is being called a hate crime.( darya ) the f-b-i is now assisting with the investigation. reid binion has the latest. jerry dyer / chief, fresno police: "a total of 16 rounds were fired."fresno's chief of police -- detailing the deadly shooting spree that rocked the city tuesday.jerry dyer / chief, fresno police: "we had

three people shot and killed and one person shot at in less than a two-minute time frame in the city of fresno."police say 39-year-old kori muhammad apparently chose his victims at random.the shootings -- taking place within a block- and-a-half of each other in downtown fresno.chief jerry dyer / fresno police: "we had an immediate response from our officers. one of our officers was traveling eastbound when we saw a black male running southbound on fulton."police say muhammad surrendered to officers -- admitting to the shootings......and also yelling "god is greatest" in arabic.jerry dyer / chief, fresno police: "he yelled out ali akbar as he was seated in the back seat of the patrol car which obviously prompted some concerns in terms of what his motive may have been."but authorities do not believe the rampage was terror-related. police -- instead calling it a hate crime.jerry dyer / chief, fresno police: "based on the information that we have been provided and our investigation has shown is that this is solely based on race."the three victims killed tuesday were white... the suspect -- blackofficials say muhammad had expressed on social media

a dislike for white people and government officials.he's set to face four counts of murder -- one of them from a previous incident in which he's accused of killing a security guard outside a fresno hotel earlier this month.i'm reid binion reporting. ( james ) quick thinking by some fast food workers ended the hunt for the facebook killer. we first broke this story yesterday on the kron four morning news. police were on a manhunt for steve stephens after he shot and killed a 74-year-old man in cleveland on easter sunday. he then posted video of the murder on facebook. police say stephens entered the drive-through of a pennsylvania mcdonalds and placed an order. the employee recognized stephens and his car. a manager then called police. the employees then began stalling on his order to give police more time to get there. when police arrived, stephens led them on a short chase before he took his own life. ( darya ) work continues on a historic east bay church

that was seriously damaged by a massive fire last year. we took quadcopter four above the repair work at berkeley's first congregational church. the fire happened last october, destroying the sanctuary roof, which led to significant water damage inside. construction has been focused on the church's sanctuary so the congregation can get back to worship as soon as possible. the church has still not decided its plans for the main building. ( darya ) the church has an estimated nine million dollars worth of damage from the fire. the sanctuary is scheduled to reopen in early june. (james) a new earthquake warning system is getting close to being released in the bay area. it's known as the "shake alert." it's a network of seismic sensors that can give people a few

seconds warning before an earthquake hits. and while it might not sound like much time... it could be enough to stop a train, pause a surgery, or slow down a car. right now the shake alert system is being tested in some schools, fire departments, and police stations. the company that makes it says they are hoping to expand the alerts in california early next year. (james) (james)(james) the u-s-g-s says it will cost 38-million dollars to build the shake alert network and 16-million dollars per year to operate it. (darya) a warning sign has been posted at the entrance of a hiking trail on the sonoma overlook after a woman was attacked there on sunday. sheriff's deputies say the violent attack happened in the middle of the afternoon while the woman was on norrbom road. the victim says a man shoved her to the ground and tried to rape her. she was able to fight him off and get away. there is still no clear description of the attacker from police. ( james ) fairfield police have arrested a third suspect for stealing muscial instruments from a high school. 18-year-old jonathan olea turned himself in yesterday morning. olea along with christian mc- collister...and another minor are suspected of breaking into

armijo high school and stealing 10-thousand dollars worth of musical instruments. several of those instruments are still missing. ( darya ) a bridge in moraga is closed after engingeers say it has structural damage after a recent landslide. the canyon road bridge is in danger of collapsing. the bridge was closed last night to all traffic and pedestrians. it's located on canyon road between

constance place in moraga. ( darya ) a power surge problem on a section of bart tracks appears to be solved this morning. last friday, electric sparks caused 22 bart cars to be taken out of service between north concord and pittsburg -bay point. bart engineers have determined rail grinding and dust is to blame. rail grinding is the process bart uses to create a quieter ride. bart officials say dust from the grinding was also part of the problem. engineers brought in huge magnets to attract the dust and move it out of the way. (james) police in healdsburg are searching for a man accused of stabbing another in front of the community center. 22-year-old luis enrique gonzalez has been identified as the suspect. it happened yesterday afternoon when officers responded to reports of a stabbing. police say two people got into a fight when one of them stabbed the other in in the arm. the 23-year-old victim was taken to the hospital. gonzalez remains at large. (james) a judge refused to

grant bail for a former children's ski instructor at a lake tahoe resort. 26-year-old stephan degraffenreid is accused of photographing young children in a bathroom at a daycare center his mother manages inside a church in nevada. he has since been fired as an assistant at heavenly ski resort's ski school. the judge did not set any bail conditions yesterday saying he is concerned about the danger deraffenreid might pose to the public, especially children. a spokesman for heavenly resort says there are no reported incidents at the resort in connection to this case. (darya) a family is filing a lawsuit in the death of a berkeley couple who died of carbon monoxide poisioning. roger morash and his wife valerie were found dead along with their two cats in january. lawyers for the family are suing the landlord and building owner for a lack of carbon monoxide detectors. the lawsuit claims there was a detector on the first floor but not the second floor where the

couple's bedroom was located. ( james )(áááboxesááá) fox news host bill o'reilly is reportedly in talks to leave the network. this comes after several women have come forward accusing him of racial and sexual harrassment. it was revealed last week that o'reilly and fox news paid out 13 million dollars to some of the alleged victims before lawsuits were filed. right now o'reilly is on vacation. he is expected to return to his show on april 24th. fox news is not confirming whether it is considering cutting ties with the t-v host. ( james ) united airlines says they will not fire any employees after a man was violently dragged off a plane in chicago. you've seen this video of doctor david dao refusing to give up his seat to a crew member and then being dragged off with blood streaming down his face. united has faced a huge backlash and dao is expected to sue the airline. united airlines c-e-o oscar munoz

says that he will stay on the job amid calls from the public for his resignation. (darya) new orleans police are looking for this man who broke into a pre-school and spent the night there. he got in through an unlocked window over the weekend. he then wandered through several rooms and ate food from the staff break room. the man also gathered some stuffed toys, a kid's mat and blanket and slept through the night. he left the next morning with two filled bags. the pre-school's owner says they are now installing roll- down shutters. (james) the numbers are in and taxes on sugary drinks appear to be working to keep people healthy. sales of sugary drinks in berkeley are down 10 percent. that's more then what was originally expected. berkeley was the first city in the country to impose the one percent tax on sugar-sweetened drinks in an

effort to fight obesity and diabetes. money raised from the taxes has been used to pay for community programs and to educate the public about healthy dietary choices, obesity and diabetes. (james) take a look at this... the state's snowpack has reached near record-breaking levels this year. images from nasa show this year's snowpack is 21 times the size of the 2015 snow pack. the left side of your screen shows the snowpack in 2015. the right is from this year. there is so much snow that officials say the snowpack this year is nearly the largest on record. (darya) an intruder is arrested at drake's southern california home... and police say the woman apparently did nothing but drink water and soda from his refrigerator.(james) the 24-year-old woman was arrested inside the rapper's home on monday. when police arrived, they found the woman inside a locked room wearing one of drake's hoodies... and was surrounded by opened water

yesterday's practice. durant was examined by the team training staff during sunday's game. but after the game, durant said it was nothing and that he would be fine. the warriors forward missed 19 regular season games because of a knee injury. durant scored 32 points and had 10 rebounds in the dubs game 1 victory. steph curry was asked about durant's injury after yesterday's practice.

c-h-p says the winter's wet weather was also a factor in many of the crashes. but drivers going over the speed limit was the biggest culprit. c-h-p says it has stepped up enforcement and has made improvements like anti-skid paving, new and higher median barriers, guard rails and better turnouts. ( james ) two men are in jail this morning accused of shooting at officers in the east bay. pittsburg police say they chased the men to a costco parking lot in antioch. that's just off highway four. police say the men started shooting at them from their car before taking off again. the driver stopped after short chase and both men in the car were arrested. (james) police are looking for an armed man who robbed a bank in antioch. this morning we have the pictures of the robber. security cameras caught these two pictures of the thief before he took off from the umpqua bank on lone tree way monday afternoon. no one was injured during the robbery.

( darya ) california lawmakers are discussing a bill that could eliminate having to post bail for certain crimes within the state. supporters of the proposal say the existing bail system hurts poor people. they say the bail system can cause people to lose their jobs while being detained. the new system would asses flight and crime risk and then decide between jailtime, home detention or other alternatives. critics of the bill include reality t-v star "dog the bounty hunter." he says people who are placed under supervision rather than having to pay - will not show up to court.

the bill has already passed through one committee but has several more to go before a full vote. ( james ) it is almost the end of president donald trump's first 100 days. and now...he is trying to make good on his campaign promises. this comes after the president has struggled to carryout some of his promises like replacing obama-care. president trump is now setting his sights on one issue central to his campaign: jobs and the economy. the president signed an executive order he describes in just four words: buy american, hire american. the order makes it harder for employers in the u-s to hire people from outside of the country. ( james ) a recent poll found just forty-five percent of americans believe the president will be able to keep his main campaign promises. ( james ) president george h.w. bush is in a houston

hospital this morning recovering from pneumonia. a spokesman for the president says the 92-year-old was admitted on friday due to a cough that prevented him from sleeping. doctors say they expect president bush to make a full recovery. he was last admitted into the hospital in january also with pneumonia. the n-c double a says the warriors new arena, the chase center will host the games in 20-22. the pac-12 conference will be the host of the west regional games. the games are set to take place on march 24 and 26 in 20- 22. the chase center is expected to open by the start of the 20-19 n-b-a season. the last time the west regional was in san francisco, it was at the california coliseum on treasure island. (james) adidas is apologizing this morning for an email they sent about the boston marathon. the marketing team sent a mass promotional email praising their customers who "survived" this year's boston marathon. the subject line of the email sent yesterday read: "congrats, you survived the boston marathon!" social media users quickly reminded the company about the real survivors of the 2013 boston marathon bombing. three

people were killed and more than 260 others were wounded when two bombs exploded near the finish line in that attack. adidas quickly apologized, saying it was "incredibly sorry" for the "insensitive" subject line about monday's race. (james) new england patriots quarterback tom brady will not attend the team's white house visit today. brady said in a statement that it's because of personal family matters. the five-time super bowl champion has skipped white house visits in the past when president obama was in office. other patriots player, including martellus bennet have already said they will not visit the white house because of president trump. ( james ) now to bay area baseball... giants manager bruce bochy recovering from heart surgery this morning.( darya ) bochy was admitted to a san diego hospital with an abnormal heart rate according to a team statement, the surgery was a success. this is not the first time bochy has had problems with his heart. last august, bochy was hospitalized with an irregular heartbeat. in february of 20-15, bochy had a

(james) a judge refused to grant bail for a former children's ski instructor at a lake tahoe resort. 26-year-old stephan degraffenreid is accused of photographing young children in a bathroom at a daycare center his mother manages inside a church in nevada. he has since been fired as an assistant at heavenly ski resort's ski school. the judge did not set any bail conditions yesterday saying he is concerned about the danger deraffenreid might pose to the public, especially children. a spokesman for heavenly resort says there are no reported incidents at the resort in connection to this case. (james) a new earthquake warning system is getting close to being released in the bay area. it's known as the "shake alert." it's a network of seismic sensors that can give people a few seconds warning before an earthquake hits. and while it might not sound like much time... it could be enough to stop a train, pause a surgery, or slow down a car. right now the shake alert system is being tested in some schools, fire departments, and police stations. the company that makes it says they are hoping to expand the alerts in california early next year.

( james ) the three drifters convicted of killing a san francisco tourist and a marin hiker have been sentenced. sean angold, lila alligood and morrison lampley were convicted of the october 2015 murders of 23-year-old audrey carrey and therapist steve carter. alligood was sentenced to 50 years to life for her role in the two murders. the gunman, morrison lampley was

sentenced to 100 years. angold was sentenced to 15 years to life for the second degree murder of steve carter after agreeing to testify against the other two. ( james ) quick thinking by some fast food workers ended the hunt for the facebook killer. we first broke this story yesterday on the kron four morning news. police were on a manhunt for steve stephens after he shot and killed a 74-year-old man in cleveland on easter sunday. he then posted video of the murder on facebook. police say stephens entered the drive-through of a pennsylvania mcdonalds and placed an order. the employee recognized stephens and his car. a manager then called police. the employees then began stalling on his order to give police more time to get there. when police arrived, stephens led them on a short chase before he took his own life. ( darya ) speeding is to blame for an increase in traffic accidents on highway 17. last year, almost a thousand accidents were reported on the highway. that's the most in 13-years.

(james) police are looking for an armed man who robbed a bank in antioch. this morning we have the pictures of the robber. security cameras caught these two pictures of the thief before he took off from the umpqua bank on lone tree way monday afternoon. no one was injured during the robbery. on a historic east bay church that was seriously damaged by a massive fire last year. we took quadcopter four above the repair work at berkeley's first congregational church. the fire happened last october, destroying the sanctuary roof, which led to significant water damage inside. construction has been focused on the church's sanctuary so the congregation can get back to worship as soon as possible. the church has still not decided its plans for the main building. ( darya ) the church has an estimated nine million dollars worth of damage from the fire. the sanctuary is scheduled to reopen in early june. ( darya ) california lawmakers are discussing a bill that could eliminate having to post bail for certain crimes within the

( james ) fairfield police have arrested a third suspect for stealing muscial instruments from a high school. 18-year-old jonathan olea turned himself in yesterday morning. olea along with christian mc- collister...and another minor are suspected of breaking into armijo high school and stealing 10-thousand dollars worth of musical instruments. several of those instruments are still missing. (darya) a warning sign has been posted at the entrance of a hiking trail on the sonoma overlook after a woman was attacked there on sunday. sheriff's deputies say the violent attack happened in the middle of the afternoon while the woman was on norrbom road. the victim says a man shoved her to the ground and tried to rape her. she was able to fight him off and get away. there is still no clear description of the attacker from police. marin hiker have been sentenced. sean angold, lila alligood and morrison lampley were convicted of the october 2015 murders of 23-year-old audrey carrey and therapist steve carter. alligood was sentenced to 50 years to life for her role in the two murders. the gunman, morrison lampley was sentenced to 100 years. angold was sentenced to 15 years to life for the second degree murder of steve carter after agreeing to testify against the other two. ( darya ) quick thinking by some fast food workers ended the hunt for the facebook killer. we first broke this story yesterday on the kron four morning news. police were on a manhunt for steve stephens after he shot and killed a 74-year-old man in cleveland on easter sunday. he then posted video of the murder on facebook. police say stephens entered the drive-through of a pennsylvania mcdonalds and placed an order. the

employee recognized stephens and his car. a manager then called police. the employees then began stalling on his order to give police more time to get there. when police arrived, stephens led them on a short chase before he took his own life. ( darya ) speeding is to blame for an increase in traffic accidents on highway 17. last year, almost a thousand accidents were reported on the highway. that's the most in 13-years. c-h-p says the winter's wet weather was also a factor in many of the crashes. but drivers going over the speed limit was the biggest culprit. c-h-p says it has stepped up enforcement and has made improvements like anti-skid paving, new and higher median barriers, guard rails and better turnouts.
